Electrocardiogram (Resting)

Purpose: Detect cardiac arrhythmias. (note--this page only gives a cursory overview for purposes of this mobile application. For more detail please refer to Dubin, as noted in the reference section).
Procedure:
Normal Result: No arrhythmias present. Abnormal Result: Arrythmias will be present. Common arrhythmias may include atrial fibrillation, bundle branch blocks, or premature ventricular contractions. Arrhythmias become more common in older adults (especially atrial fibrillation) due to age related changes. Arrhythmias are common in conditions such as post myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, or in patients with cardiac risk factors such as atherosclerosis. |
